Abbey's cardiologist appointment

It actually happened BEFORE Grace's tube surgery - but I had no time to get these pics posted!

Here she is getting her EKG. This is one of those shots I have always wanted - this time I remembered!

It just so happens that it is my Aunt Aggi hooking her all up! The very first time we went into emergency with this issue - she was the one who came in to do this test. She has done every EKG for Abbey now - mostly just by 'chance'.



She actually does pretty well with them - she sits quite still considering she is a 3 month old baby who has NO interest in sitting still! She wants to kick! To move, to squirm!

But she is pretty patient about the process. She even gave my Aunt a few smiles!

The cardiologist again was very reassuring me. He reminded me that in the worst case scenario there is a cure for this by surgery when she is 3 or 4. I have to remember that. Although it would still be awful trying to take a 2 year old to the hospital to have an IV inserted - and then to watch them give her adenosine. Anyway - we still have lots of time to hope that she will grow out of this in the next few months and that extra pathway will die off! Also - it is not genetic, so the likelihood of having another child with SVT (if we decide to have any more children) is very small. Not even small but ridiculously small. Practically unthinkable he said!

He also gave us a schedule to increase her medication and assured me that there ARE other things she can take if this medication still doesn't prevent 'breakthrough episodes'. So that was good to hear as well!

Myringotomy and Insertion of Tubes

Grace went for her surgery yesterday. She did amazing!

She woke up, ready to go!

We got there and she had to change into these cute pajamas.

Once we were all settled in, the nurses asked her if she wanted to go to the O.R. in her bed, or in a wagon, or if she wanted to walk. She opted for the wagon!

In only half an hour or so, she was back from recovery - all fixed up. She looked a little like she was going to cry, but insisted that she was okay, and that she wasn't in pain.

Before she knew it Aunty Donna had come in with a Beanie baby for her, and she got a popsicle for breakfast! All in all, it went well. Now we are just praying for her recovery - and that this will resolve her hearing issues. She says she can hear better, and I think its true!

Doctors..doctors..and more doctors...

Well, Friday morning at 4:00 - Grace came to me to say that her ear was sore, so on Friday after I posted to the blog I phoned the ENT and asked if we could come in. They squeezed her in, and sure enough - more fluid, another infection. So she was clear for all of 4-6 weeks. Gross, heh? Anyway, he doesn't see any hope in more antibiotics clearing it up, since it has never in the past, so he recommends we go for tubes.

I hate the idea of her going through surgery, but I hate the idea of her being in constant pain, on antibiotics all the time, and not being able to hear properly even more so we are going that route. She went for her ear molds today for her custom fitted ear plugs...and wouldn't you know it they called to give us her surgery date as well. So she goes next Tuesday. She has to be at the hospital at 6:45 a.m. and she should be home by noon! Weird, heh?

She is excited...a little nervous, but mostly excited. She LOVES Dr. Ogrady (or Dr. Gravy as Amelia calls him) - so she is just happy she will be seeing him again! LOL!!!

So last Friday Abbey saw her pediatrician, then Grace went to the ENT (Dr. Gravy), and today Olivia had a filling at the dentist and Grace went to be fitted for her ear plugs. Thursday Abbey has an appointment with the cardiologist and next week Monday is another dentist visit for Olivia, and Tuesday is Grace's ear surgery. Do I have it all straight? Jeesh! I guess when it rains it pours! Am I ever glad we live in a country where we have all of these doctors - but it does seem to happen all at once.

Anyway, here are a few other pictures I took today of my crazy kids!

Here are the girls - reciting Psalm 24 which they basically had memorized in 3 days - but have spent the last week perfecting! It is amazing to me the capacity kids have for memorization! Even little Amelia - only 2 years old, but she is right in there, reciting with her sisters! They are hoping to do this recitation at the ARCHE assembly when classes begin at the end of the month!

See why I can't wait for Olivia to be old enough to be in Bible quizzing? LOL!

We have had a fairly slow school week - Monday was a holiday, Tuesday was dentist appointments and other running around, Wednesday we were productive and yesterday I couldn't get into it! We did a bit, but not much!

Today Abbey has a doc appointment, just a regular check up and so we won't get much done today either! Hopefully we will get to see Sarah and Katie, and we can call it Social studies, or phys ed or something like that! LOL!
